No there is not a backlight on the display. We agree that the display can be difficult to read if it is connected to a wall socket low down.

We have already launched the EW5001 with a much bigger display and a better screen contrast that is easier to read. However the fact that the monitor is often low down is a major contributing factor to the problem.

A solution to this problem is to connect the monitor into a power strip and have the power strip in a place where you can easily read the monitor screen. Not ideal but it does work. With the EW5001 we also offer an option with an extension cable so the unit can be held in your hand whilst you take your readings.

We apologise if the packaging gave the impression that the monitor had a blue backlight. This was not intentional and all later packaging has been rectified to ensure this impression is not given.
